Students’ interest in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is declining. But these subjects are also critical to equipping our future leaders with the skills we’ll need to adapt to the new environmental challenges facing our planet. We need to empower teachers and students to connect with get involved in these subjects so we can continue developing solutions to the challenges we face now, and in the future.
Earthwatch offers experiential professional development opportunities that help teachers build up their skills and learn innovative teaching methods as for their STEM and geography lessons. We engage teachers first hand in real-world research, expanding their knowledge and confidence in teaching environmental issues, and give them education resources that will help them embed citizen science programs into core learning. By transcending classroom walls and engaging in real, nature-based programs, teachers will be able to build their students’ capacity to become innovative and critical thinkers.
