Little Desert National Park VIC Bush Blitz | Oct 2018

Today Museums Victoria and Bush Blitz set up a community day at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre. The community event was a chance for the scientists to showcase some of the species they've collected within the Little Desert National Park. The teachers helped set up, run some activities, talk to visitors and pack up at the end.

The atmosphere was great as over 120 locals looked at the displays, asked questions, created some craft or tried to make a leaf that could travel the longest distance. It was excellent to see many young families bring their children to experience and participate in the event. Many took the opportunity to really engage with the scientists and ask the hard questions. All of the displays and activities were visually appealing and educationally informative.

I couldn't help myself and ended up helping at the leaf challenge. It was fantastic to see so many children engaged in this activity, very determined to be the best. One family was competing to see who could sit in the front seat on the way home!

It was really pleasing to see the level of interest and engagement by the Nhill community at the event. Feedback from all concerned was overwhelmingly positive. The number of children who attended is particularly satisfying. It is a great sign that the future of areas such as the Little Desert National Park is in good hands.
