How's the serenity...

I weighed my bag at the airport this morning, feeling nervous that it would be over the 15kg weight limit, for I needed to pack for a week long field expedition at Fowlers Bay, on the Eyre Peninsula. The private charter plane with myself as one of four passengers flew into Ceduna, where we met with Earthwatch coordinators, ready to commence our expedition as field research assistants.

We set up camp and watched the 30 scientists roll back in from a day of exciting discoveries. The marine zoologist had a trolley full of samples ready to look through, the invertebrate experts had spiders, wasps and flies to classify and pin, the geologists have taken soil samples ready to investigate and the herpetologists had species to classify and prepare for the South Australian Museum.

Tomorrow is my first day in the field as an assistant to an expert in reptiles and cave invertebrates. I'm looking forward to seeing what might be slithering in the Wahgunyah Conservation Park...
