Cassandra Nichols

Chief Executive Officer

Cassandra Nichols is the CEO of Earthwatch Institute Australia, a member of the Australian Business and Biodiversity Initiative Steering Committee and an active member of the Australian Committee for International Union for Conservation of Nature (ACIUCN).

Cassandra works with business, educators and community to increase knowledge in environmental issues and to inspire action.

She has been working in the environmental sector for 12 years and completed a Bachelor of Animal Science at Latrobe University, followed by honours at the University of Queensland. Moving to the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest, Cassandra worked for James Cook University studying the sensitivity of rainforest flora and fauna to climate change. With a growing aspiration to bridge the gap between science and the community, Cassandra joined Earthwatch seven years ago. As a global organisation that aspires to create a more scientifically literate society and one that understands the significance of nature to our health and wellbeing, Earthwatch provided the perfect vehicle to share her passion for the environment.

In that time, Cassandra has been developing projects to engage corporates, teachers, students and the public in research ranging an extensive array of topics from marine debris, Australian wide biodiversity surveys, impacts of climate change on Australian fauna, to the loss of pollinators in India. Leading Earthwatch now, Cassandra’s primary focus is to build cross-sector relationships and help steer society to a more sustainable future.
