Maria is an ecologist with a Bachelor in Environmental Science and a PhD in spatial ecology from Deakin University. Maria has extensive experience in marine predator research and a passion for understanding how climate change influences the ecology and fitness of higher trophic levels and the function of ecosystems. For her thesis, Maria studied minke whale occurrence in relation to sea ice habitat structure in the Antarctic. She has worked for a variety of non-profit, academic, and corporate groups in Australia, Colombia, and the Falkland Islands. She joined Earthwatch to follow her interest of engaging the general public in conservation and research, and to share her passion with members of the community.
