Bek Armishaw

Day 5 | Bek Armishaw | Aspiri Primary School

It was a beautiful morning at Cape Le Grand National Park and the team decided to head back to Hell Fire Bay to collect more specimens with Jeremy Wilson. He needed a few more pseudoscorpions and was hopeful to find an adult flat spider. It didn’t take us long to walk the path around to the large granite rocks and secret bay. We had a few Tjaltjraak (dul-a-rak) Rangers helping turn pieces of granite in search of spiders.

It didn’t take long for one of the team to come across a flat spider, but it was fast and ran for cover under a large piece of granite. Luckily, the Rangers helped move and turn the large piece of granite revealing the flat spider and a huntsman! Jeremy was excited to have found two adult specimens that he needed but catching them would be a challenge. He readied his vials, we held our breath, and with two quick swoops he had collected both spiders. We collected a few more pseudoscorpions before following the trail back to the car.

I was enjoying the walk back when suddenly Jeremy spied a trap door and we stopped to investigate, watch the next part of our adventure here!
